The Cooks for Kids (CFK) Meal Providers program at Ronald McDonald House in St. Paul is a fun, flexible group volunteer opportunity that makes an enormous difference in the lives of families with seriously-ill children. Eagan Kick Start Rotary will send a team of volunteers to plan, prepare and serve buffet style meals to Ronald McDonald House families at the Ronald McDonald Family Room located inside Children's Hospitals & Clinics of MN, St. Paul. After a long day at their child’s bedside, families tell us that a hot meal served by friendly volunteers is a highlight of their day. Check out the Event Calendar for more details or to volunteer!
Kick-Start's five volunteers kept themselves hopping at The Open Door Thursday evening by shopping, weighing, logging, and loading 1233 lbs of groceries for 25 families. Since September about 40% of our membership has volunteered at least once at The Open Door. If you haven't yet, give it a try this winter - it's a great way to learn more about your community and your friends. For example, this month we learned how Betty Otto tricks Mike Ferber into eating kale.
If you have ever wondered what the future of Rotary will be, you need look no further than the Eagan High School Interact Club. In just the past few months they have served our community with a fall leaf raking project, a winter coat drive, and a grocery bagging fundraiser at Cub Foods. What an inspiration for Rotary Clubs everywhere hoping to up their community service game!
Eagan Kick-Start Rotary has committed to sponsoring one night of the Emergency Winter Shelter when it locates to Easter Lutheran Church in Eagan 2/17-3/17/2018. All proceeds collected from Happy Bucks at our weekly meetings in December and January will be earmarked for this cause; the club will make up any shortfall.
Quick! What do Kick-Start Rotarians Scott Erickson and Dave Verbeke have in common with Boris Yeltsin, Jonas Salk, Jimmy Carter, and Mother Teresa? All are Paul Harris Fellows - individuals who have contributed, or have had contributions made in their name, totaling $1000 to The Rotary Foundation. This recognition was established in 1957 to show appreciation for and encourage substantial contributions to the foundation. Since then over one million Paul Harris Fellows have been recognized. If you want to see your progress toward this goal, go to My Rotary and navigate first to Profile and then Donor History Report.
Eagan Kick-Start Rotary sent three representatives to the One Rotary Summit on Sep. 15 at the Earle Brown Heritage Center. Follow the link for the raw notes transcribed from the ideas generated that day. District 5950 will ultimately create a “toolkit” that offers a step by step approach to some of the ideas. As you use or implement ideas, please let Tom Gump know your experience.
