Weekly Inspiration
Teamwork is the ability to work together toward a common vision. The ability to direct individual accomplishments toward organizational objectives. It is the fuel that allows common people to attain uncommon results.
 Andrew Carnegie
Coming together is a beginning. Keeping together is progress. Working together is success.

Community Conversation on Race

Take part in a special program and facilitated dialogue on race hosted by the South Metro Community and YWCA Minneapolis for members of the South Metro area, including: Apple Valley, Burnsville, Shakopee and Eagan.

  • Move participants toward an understanding of how race plays out in the community

  • Develop deeper awareness of diversity, culture and equity and the possible experiences of participants
  • Develop space for participants to identify tactics to help them reach equity goals

Date: Thursday, January 18
Time: 6:30 pm - 8:00 pm
Location: Apple Valley Community Center, 14603 Hayes Road, Apple Valley, MN 55124 (in the Community Room)

Interact in Action!
The subzero temperatures will not deter the Eagan High School Interact Club (mentored by Bill Wirskbinski) from a busy winter of service. Upcoming projects include:
  • Feed My Starving Children on 2/22/2018 from 2:30-4:30PM. Kick-Starters are invited to join.
  • Making about 50 fleece tied baby blankets out of polar fleece to donate to local shelters.
  • Making up to 200 birthday bags for The Open Door for which they will use Kick-Start's $500 donation for the materials.
  • Coat check at Eagan Rotary Gala on 2/10/2018.
  • Jeans/coat drive at Eagan High School on 2/21-22/2018.
  • Researching 363 event, making sandwiches in partnership with a local grocery store for eight homeless locations (tentative date is 2/20/18).
Kick-Start's Mary Nell Zellner will report periodically on Interact's activities and how Kick-Start can be of assistance.
Kick-Start Volunteers at The Open Door
On Thursday Jan. 4 Eagan Kick-Start has committed to providing a team of six volunteers to The Open Door to assist in client grocery shopping and checkout. Clients arrive beginning at 5:30pm; volunteers should arrive 20-30 minutes early for orientation. Spouses/partners are welcome.
This is a busy time of year at The Open Door; please consider volunteering if you can, thanks!
Eagan Rotary Gala!
The Eagan Rotary Noon Club is selling tickets online for the Eagan Rotary Gala which is February 10, 2018 at the Eagan Community Center.  We hope by then to have adequately recovered from the Twin Cities hosting the Super Bowl and the Vikings winning it!
Once again you can join 350 people raising money that will be used to make a difference in our community and world. This the Noon Club's only fundraiser. It supports the club foundation and the money is spent back in the community on projects and not-for-profits. Last year the Noon Club committed $150,000 to help Art Works Eagan achieve their goal of opening their new space. The Noon Club gives approximately $30,000 in community grants per year.
And new for 2018: Eagan Rotary Gala tickets may now be purchased electronically via our Club’s website www.eaganrotary.org! Simply click on the giant red  PURCHASE TICKETS  icon prominently displayed on our home page and complete the simple four-step purchasing process. And you will also have the ability to purchase sponsorships with your credit card via our new electronic ticketing system. We’re absolutely convinced this will be a much easier/less time consuming system for us going forward – and rest assured, we’ll be with you every step of the way should you have questions or encounter any challenges.
One final note: if you add Scott Swenson's name as the Rotarian in the note section, he will include you as he coordinates seating.
Contact Scott Swenson with any questions.
Hats and Gloves to Lewis House
Kick-Start kicked in funds to purchase warm hats and gloves for residents of Lewis House, a Sexual and Domestic Violence shelter in Eagan. We wanted to send along our friendliest faces with the delivery but they weren't available so instead we sent Buzz and Greg. Thanks guys!

Homeless Shelter Sponsorship
Eagan Kick-Start Rotary has committed to sponsoring one night of the Emergency Winter Shelter when it locates to Easter Lutheran Church in Eagan 2/17-3/17/2018. All proceeds collected from Happy Bucks at our weekly meetings in December and January will be earmarked for this cause; the club will make up any shortfall.
So when you are happy, be really happy!
Share Your Inspiration!
For me, one of the highlights of each meeting is hearing those pearls of wisdom that each of our members finds inspirational.
So I want to try something new - email your inspiration to me after each meeting and I will use it as a header for Kick-Start News the following week.
Gives those who missed it a chance to see it and those who heard it a moment for further reflection. Thanks!
